In this article, we will discuss about the world-famous religious place, or we can say that Best visiting place in Patna, Shri Harimandir sahib, Patna. It is also known as Takht Sri Harimandir Ji, Patna Sahib. There are total five takht of Sikh religion and this is one of them. This place is very famous because of the birthplace of 10th guru of Sikh, Guru Gobind Singh. This place is situated in Patna, and it is 10 km from Patna junction.
This place is very crowded in January because Jan 5, is a special day for Sikh community. This day is a birthday of 10th day of guru Gobind Singh G and this day is also known as Prakashotsava (Prakash + Utsav). In 2018 Prakashotsava was celebrated in Patna with full joy and happiness because this was 350th Anniversary of Guru Govind Singh Ji.

Guru Gobind Singh: 10th Guru of Sikh
Guru Gobind Singh was the 10th and last Human Guru of Sikh. He was born on 22 Dec1666 in Patna during Mughal Empire. He was a warrior, poet and Philosopher His was also known as Tenth Nanak and Tenth Master. In 1675, when he was just 9 years old, He was formally installed as a leader of Sikhs after his father Guru Teg Bahadur was executed by Aurangzeb. He was the only son of Guru Teg bahadur and Mata Gujri. He belongs to Sodhi clan of Sikh community.
When he turns into 10, he married Jito on 21 Jun 1677 at Basantgarh. This couple blessed with three sons.
- Jujhar Singh (1691)
- Zorawar Singh (1696)
- Fateh Singh (1699)
When he turns into 17, he married Mata Sundri on 04 April 1684 at Anandpur. This couple was blessed with only one son and his name was Ajit Singh (1687).
When he turns into 33, he married with Sahib Dewan on 15 April 1700 at Anandpur. This couple was not able to get child but she was a influential role in Sikhism and Guru Gobind Singh proclaimed her as a mother of Khalsa.
Guru Gobind Singh was good in education, Writing, Martial arts, archery and Horse riding. He established Khalsa on 1699. He was assassinated on 07 October 1708 at the age of 41.
History of Takht Sri Patna Sahib
As I have told you before, this gurudwara is very holy place for Sikhism because it is a birthplace of 10th Guru of Sikhism Guru Gobind Singh. He spends his early 4 years of his life at this place after that he move to Anandpur Sahib. It is also known as Harmandir Sahib. It is located in Patna City which is also known as Patna Sahib because of this gurudwara.
It was built-in 1950 by Maharaja Ranjeet Singh. He was the first Maharaja of Sikh Empire and he build many gurdwara in including Patna Sahib Gurudwara. In patna, Besides many place or famous public places is renamed on the name of Guru Govind Singh. As for example, The place where it is located it’s name was patna city but it is also known as Patna Sahib. The railway station near gurudwara is known as Patna Sahib railway station.
Patna city or we can say that Patna sahib is a old area of Patna and it’s History belongs to Pataliputra. it comes under Patna Sahib (Vidhan Sabha constituency).
How to visit Takht Sri Patna Sahib
Time to visit: 0230 hrs. to 2000 hrs.

If you Belongs from other than Sikh Community than you have to know some instruction that need to know and strictly follow the local rules of Gurudwara.

- It is a basic thing that every people need to cultivate in his daily life that is maintain cleanliness where ever you are. People are volunteer to serve in the gurudwara and they maintain cleanliness. So, it is necessary to keep the area clean.
- Gurudwara committee has ban for all to wear a short dress. They believed that if you are wearing vulgar dress in the complex, It is a matter of insult for his guru and Gurudwara. so, pls try to wear a gentle dress whenever you are going for visit.
- During your visit to the gurudwara, your head should be covered by cloths. You can use your hanky or and any clean cloths. If you are not carrying any cloths, you can take cloths from the gate of the gurudwara that is provided by the gurudwara committee.
- If you are interested to click photographs, you can capture the moment inside campus, but you are not allowed to click photograph inside of the main temple. You can visit there and pray.
While entering in the campus of gurudwara, you have to tie something on your head either he is male or female. After that people have to put off his shoe on the shoe counter where volunteer people always ready to serve without money and any greed.
After removal of shoe, you will go to the temple to visit the place where Guru Gobind Singh Ji born and spend his early 4 years of his life. You will see there a well that was used by Gobind Singh Ji. It is believed that it is limitless and who will drink the water of this holy well, they will be blessed and his all pray will be completed.
There is a Home like structure inside the main temple where who will see some Great Sikhs serve to the Aasan of Gobind Singh Ji. People do parikrama around Asan and pray for his family and himself. After visiting the temple, you can go to the museum that is situated near main gate where you will see the History of Guru Gobind Singh Ji and some item related to his life are kept safe in that museum.
In the complex there is a event is organized that is known as Lunger. In lunger People can have blessing food there. This event is organized because of the love and affection of the Sikh toward his community. It is free of cost for all people, and it is open 24*7.
There is one more important event that i saw, Gurudwara was providing blessing food like halwa that people can bring it to his home for relative. It is very delicious.
After visit, you can have rest to the shed of the complex of the outer temple and have rest after meal. You will spend almost 3 hours there and then you can go and visit other places near Takht Sri Patna Sahib Gurudwara that i have mentioned below.
