Thangasseri, Kerala

Thangasseri is one of the major tourist attractions in Kerala. Thangasseri is located at a distance of 5 km from Kollam city. Thangasseri is a beautiful seaside town on the shores of the Arabian Sea. Thangasseri is also a place of historic importance.


Thangasseri, a small seaside town used to be Portuguese settlement in the early years and was then followed by the Dutch and the English. Kollam was one of the old port for international cashew trade on the Malabar Coast. Thangasseri was thus the stronghold of these sea traders who came to India. Thangasseri still have preserved the old ruins of the Portuguese and Dutch settlers, who settled in India and preserved those ruins well. The place also has some 18th century churches. Thangasseri is also famous for forts. This place has the ruins of some Portuguese and Dutch Forts which still are a silent witness of the olden eras. These forts are paradise for historians and researchers.

Thangasseri also showcases some 18th century churches built by the Portuguese and the Dutch.
